Taxis are the most convenient way to get around when you are in a city. Whenever possible, only use taxis with meters, and make sure the meter is turned on.

Outside of the large cities, taxis may not have meters, in which case you will need to negotiate a price. This should always be done before you set off.

Health, Safety and Security

Is is safe to travel to Egypt and Jordan?

Egypt and Jordan are both safe for tourists. However, it’s best to remain vigilant in crowded areas. Very quiet and dimly lit areas are also best avoided at night just as an extra precaution.

In Jordan, the military is responsible for security, so expect to see soldiers. Military-manned check points are also quite common. While you may be required to show your passport, there is no reason to be concerned.

Due to the conflict in Syria, it is best to avoid visiting areas near to the Jordan/Syrian border. In fact, the Jordanian military may not allow you near the border.

Is it safe for women travelers?

Egypt, Jordan and the other Middle Eastern countries we service are just as safe for female travelers as any other popular tourist destination.

However, as is always the case, if you are traveling alone as a single female, a bit of common sense can go a long way in helping you to avoid potential trouble. To this end, we recommend dressing modestly and avoiding walking around alone in quiet and dimly lit areas at night.

Is there any special advice or tips?

Egypt and Jordan are more conservative than many other countries. As a result, we recommend dressing modestly and refraining from displays of blatant affection in public.

In very touristy areas, and especially in areas such as Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada in Egypt, there tends to be a more relaxed attitude towards the way foreigners choose to dress and/or behave. However, under no circumstances should you insult Islam or any other religion.

The Jordanian King and the monarchy enjoy broad support in Jordan and should not be criticized or insulted under any circumstances.

Any health concerns I should worry about?

No, there are no particular health problems to worry about when visiting Egypt and Jordan. The most common issues are things like an upset stomach, but even this is not very common.

Do I need any vaccinations?

Certain vaccinations are recommended but you don’t have to have these in order to visit. However, people traveling from certain countries will have to show proof of Yellow Fever immunization.

Only people traveling from countries that have Yellow Fever are required to show proof of Yellow Fever immunization.

We strongly suggest speaking to your personal healthcare provider concerning pre-travel vaccination for the following illnesses:

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Hepatitis A & B
  • Measles, mumps and rubella
  • Polio
  • Typhoid
  • Rabies

Please ask your tour consultant for latest Covid-19 requirements.
